The 4000 Mile AirPod Hunt – Apple Creative Content
At Hussel Marketing, we really do thrive when it comes to transforming challenges and strange ideas into innovative marketing victories. Our approach was is truly highlighted through one of our more recent projects, one that revolved around a unique tale involving a pair of Apple AirPods and our founder just not knowing when to ‘call it quits’.
The Challenge
Hussel’s owner, Lewis, faced an unfortunate incident: his Apple AirPods were stolen during a Qatar Airways layover in Doha. However fast-forward five months, he noticed that his AirPods were actually still connected to his phone. Immediately those creative juices started pumping and a very unique PR stunt was born. What followed was one heck of an unexpected opportunity, as he began hunting down the thief and began his global journey.
The Creative Plan
We sat down and thought “screw it, let’s have some fun” and we decided to turn this every day incident into a marketing opportunity like no other. Our idea was to create original content for Apple by combining the ‘find-my-phone’ features and flying 4000 miles to the Middle East and retrieve his property. This strategy, while not entirely new in concept (heck anyone can film social content), was unique in our storytelling approach and execution. Nobody had ever done this before!
Execution and Solution
Embracing our identity as “disruptive marketing weirdos,” Hussel used the Apple “Find My” feature to track the AirPods’ as they travelled across the globe moving between Qatar to Kathmandu, a Himalayan village, Thailand, and back to Doha. The moment they landed back in Doha … the hunt was on! We hopped a flight at a moments notice and documented the entire journey.
Results
Our campaign achieved impressive results, showcasing the power of creative storytelling in marketing:
– Garnered over 50 global news and press features within the first 24 hours.
– Achieved an estimated 1.26 million views through Press in 24 hours (coveragebook.com).
– Generated more than 40,000 engagements across various social media platforms in three days.
– Accumulated a combined total of over 1.75 million views on Hussel’s owned media channels.
– Multiple new client enquiries from across the globe and two projects signed.
– Executed with a minimal budget.
– ROI of 10/1 through 100% organic content (no advertising spend).
– Total campaign reach exceeded an impressive 3 million views in less than seven days.
Conclusion
We shout about this project as it showcases how we think, how we act and our values. It’s an exercise in “show not tell”. Anyone can say they’re ‘disruptive, but Hussel Marketing’s ability to leverage creative and disruptive strategies for impactful marketing, that’s why we exist.
With a modest budget, a fantastic idea and a compelling storytelling, we managed to successfully captured global attention and engagement for our brand.
